Whether having one too many drinks at happy hour or ordering extra spicy wings, we’ve all felt the side effects of over-indulging in our favorite things. It’s also important to enjoy kratom responsibly without going overboard.

In small to moderate servings, kratom could help boost your energy levels, mood, and even your physical comfort level. But at the same time, this is unlikely to be your experience if you take too much kratom at once.

Thankfully, this problem is avoidable by learning how much kratom is too much.

Finding Your Ideal Serving Size

Kratom’s effects depend on how much you consume at onceor from multiple servings within a couple hours. Starting with a smaller amount of kratom is best if you’re new to Mitragyna speciosa.

People typically start with one or two grams of kratom. That’s about one to four capsules (depending on a vendor’s capsule sizes) or about a half to a full teaspoon if you use raw kratom powder from our sister brand, Golden Monk

Note: An inexpensive kitchen or pocket scale is great for ensuring you’re using exact amounts of kratom powder.

Signs Your Kratom Serving Is Too High

Kratom’s side effects in higher servings can include:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Temporary nystagmus (sometimes referred to as “eye wobbles”)
  • Other serious, but rare, side effects

Don’t panic if you take too much kratom. Any side effects should subside as kratom makes its way through your body. Serious kratom allergies are exceedingly rare. However, if you accidentally take a truly excessive amount or if you have other active substances in your system, you may need to seek medical attention.

Another issue, especially if you regularly take higher-than-normal amounts of kratom, is increasing your tolerance to it.

Let’s use caffeine as an example of tolerance. Most caffeine users feel energized when they first start drinking coffee or energy drinks. As time goes on, caffeine’s energizing buzz won’t feel as strong or last as long. Some people may require more caffeine to achieve similar effects, even though substance abuse and addiction are exceedingly rare.

Enjoying Kratom Responsibly

Capsules and powders are relatively easy to measure servings. We’re working diligently to add eye droppers to our line of liquid shots to make these extract products even easier to portion your kratom serving!

Being responsible about kratom consumption helps ensure you enjoy everything it offers. Here’s what else

Avoid Kratom Potentiators

If you’re sensitive to kratom’s effects, avoid consuming it with potentiators such as caffeine, ginger, and grapefruit. As evidenced by many Reddit users like the ones in this thread, mixing kratom and alcohol is also not advisable.

Note Your Kratom Intake

Another helpful step is to write down or otherwise note what time you take kratom and your serving size. It might sound like going overboard, but it’s extremely helpful to avoid taking too much kratom.

Check Product Labels

Additionally, check your product’s labels to find serving-related information. One vendor may use capsules containing 500 milligrams of kratom. Another may pack 1,000 milligrams into larger capsules.

Kratom amounts can also vary significantly in liquid kratom extracts. One brand may offer 20 grams of kratom extract per mini bottle or shot. Another vendor may pack 100 grams or more into a multi-serving extract product.

A crucial part of being responsible with kratom is understanding your limits. Learning how much kratom is too much helps you avoid any potential unwanted effects while experiencing everything this botanical offers.
