However, a significant development occurred in April 2023 with the introduction of House Bill 4061, known as the Kratom Consumer Protection & Regulation Act.

Similar to other states, Michigan state Rep. Lori Stone’s proposed bill includes age and labeling requirements, defines kratom as a food product, and prohibits the sale of adulterated kratom products.

Expressing the necessity for regulation, Stone emphasized the lack of adequate labeling, serving size information, and warnings about kratom’s effects in Michigan. She stressed the urgency of enacting laws to ensure consumer safety and transparency in the kratom market.
